There are quite a few things that work very well for Daebak Realty and the second best next to Hong Ji badassness is the beautifully constructed set, kudos to the director and team for having the spooky element for this drama down to a tee. The other is the fiery chemistry between Hong Ji Ah and Oh In Bum; on first look, they seem so different, yet there's something about them, and maybe it's their past that makes them such a great balance.
Despite what they both think, they are a lot more similar and are bound to find that out as they continue working together, her cold inner core to his warm. As they say, simplicity and complexity need each other a lot more than they know. And last but not least is how Hong Ji gets around the wandering vengeful spirits. I love how everything about her changes from her eyes to her demeanor to her habits, which are now Oh In Bum's. I love the ease with which Jung Yong Hwa plays the role. It suits him very well.
I love how the show depicts the vengeful spirits when Hong Ji Ah is around them, everything from the icy breath to the visions only she can see to her stoic yet expressive eyes, even down to her exorcism practices. It all just works beautifully. It took a new death experience through a vengeful spirit possession for Oh In Bum to believe spirits and ghosts exist. Not only is he a psychic and a medium, but he has occult abilities, and I am glad he finally did. I like this new side of him as I was sure there was more to him than just a con man. I liked that he fought for the ghost painter's spirit and convinced Hong Ji to do the same. It's the giving restless spirits peace aspect of the exorcisms that I appreciate the most. And now that In Bum is invested in finding out why his uncle, whom I think may have been a medium that worked with Hong Ji's mom the same as he's doing now, passed, so am I. I get the feeling that the loan shark Do Hak Sung (Ahn Kil Kang) may have had something to do with both the uncle and Hong Ji's mother's death.
Other than Hong Ji and In Bum, I am thoroughly enjoying Chief Heo Ji Cheol (Kang Hong Suk) as In Bum's sidekick and Joo Hwa Jung (Kang Mal Geum) as Hong Ji's secretary. They each have their work cut out for them in trying to keep both In Bum and Hong Ji from being on each other's throats all the time but at the same time seem to enjoy their energy. At least Joo Hwa Jung does. I love that she's the diplomacy to Hong Ji's crudeness. Of all the exorcism cases the Daebak Realty team has taken on, I find the newest case most interesting -- wandering spirits that aren't even aware they're no longer a part of the living world, now that's totally intriguing. And what's even more intriguing is that In Bum's uncle is one of wandering spirits that doesn't even know they are dead. I cannot wait to see how Hong Ji handles this new situation seeing that the last memory she has of her mother is him strangling her. I doubt either imagine what ill-fated connection awaits them.
